Beloved, the wait is over.
For those of you who have been in community with Aya Collective Publishing for some time, you know this moment has been a long time coming. Over the past several years, we have been tending a powerful new text focused on the lived experiences of Black women navigating endometriosis—work rooted in deep listening, relationship, and care.
Written by Dr. Shakita Thomas-Kpetay and Tamien Elder, this book reclaims the narrative around Black women’s bodies—centering them as sites of knowledge, transformation, resistance, and healing.
It is with great joy that I share that Remembered and Living Text: Black Women Living with Endometriosis is now officially available for pre-order.
For too long, the realities of endometriosis have lived at the margins: misunderstood, misdiagnosed, and often carried in silence. While Black women are disproportionately impacted, this is a story that asks all of us to reckon with how pain is dismissed, whose bodies are believed, and what healing truly requires—individually and collectively.
That is why we are honored to share this text with you now.
More than a book, Remembered and Living Text is a living archive—of testimony, remembrance, and truth-telling. Grounded in Black women’s histories and personal narratives, it offers insight and pathways toward wellness that ripple outward to families, caregivers, practitioners, and communities committed to health justice and collective care.
From the book
….This work of reproductive justice is ongoing and continues to make sure that all women, especially Black girls and women not only have access to high-quality health care, but can move from mere survival to thriving. Additionally, as we situate our experiences within the literature on reproductive care, we want to emphasize Black girls and women’s agency and contributions to the medical field…
